BUMC MISSION CORNER
UPCOMING MISSION OPPORTUNITIES:
▪ Drake House Workday on 05/17/08: The Drake House offers emergency
housing for women and children in Roswell, Georgia. We will take a
team down to Roswell to help paint the interior of the main house
(most likely trim work). This is a great organization that needs our
help. Women and children comprise forty-three percent of Atlanta’s
homeless. We will meet at the church at 8:00 a.m. and will return
around 3:00 p.m. Plan on bringing a few paint brushes and a snack
lunch (or money to eat out). This event is open to all, including
children and youth. For more information visit their web site at
http://www.thedrakehouse.org.
▪ SERV Mexico 07/25/08 - 08/02/08: This is a BUMC sponsored mission
trip to Mexico to build bunk beds for an orphanage and teach
Vacation Bible School at night. The cost of the trip will be around
$600 (depending on transportation).
If you are interested in these missions, or if you have any local
ministries you would like BUMC to support, please feel free to
contact Tal Cox at 770.310.6345 or Chris Holcombe at 404.276.0399.
DAVE RAMSEY FPU PREVIEW
Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University is coming to BUMC this
fall. But there's no need to wait. Take control of your financial
future tday! Read Dave Ramsey's "Total Money Makeover" or check out
Dave's website,
www.daveramsey.com.
▪ Getting out of debt will not happen overnight; it takes time. Here
are the Baby Steps that will get you started: (1) $1000 emergency
fund; (2) Pay off all non-mortgage debt with debt snowball; (3) 3 to
6 months expenses in savings; (4) 15% of income invested for
retirement; (5) college funding; (6) pay off home early; (7) build
wealth and give! Giving is an important part of FPU. According to
Dave, "The idea of holding money with an open hand might seem to
violate common sense. We feel that if we don’t hold on tightly to
our money and our relationships, they will slip away. I’m not saying
literally hold your money with an open hand – it represents our
attitude toward money. When you give, you open yourself up. You
allow the dollars to leave and the freedom to enter.”
▪ Giving works because it is in your personal blueprint to be a
giver, and you unleash good things in your life that you will never
see until you learn the art of unselfish giving. Giving lifts us out
of ourselves; we take our eyes off our rights, our problems, and our
stuff. The new view gives us renewed vision and hope. Giving is
powerful."
