WORD WEDNESDAY
Students discuss relevant topics related to their everyday lives in small group environments at the church or in church member homes. New students are welcomed anytime. Word Wednesday meets weekly during the school year.

WEDNESDAY WORKPLAY
SUMMER PROJECTS ARE BACK!
JUNE 25; JULY 9 AND 23
Each day is filled with a half-day mission project and lunch and swimming afterwards. Projects can be anything from yard work for a member of the community to sandwich preparation for a local shelter or a visit to a retirement home. Projects are open to middle and high school students. Meet at the Church at 9:30 a.m. and return at 3:00 p.m. Sign up by contacting Mark Jones at 678.942.1614 or birminghamyouth@gmail.com.

ANNUAL SIX FLAGS TRIP!
FRIDAY, JULY 18

Students rising into seventh grade through graduating seniors are invited. Please arrive at the Church at 12:00 noon. We will return at 9:00 p.m. Students should eat lunch prior to arrival or plan to eat at the park. Also, bring money for dinner. The cost of tickets will be $35 which will cover van fuel, parking fees, and the ticket. Coke cans and other discounts cannot be honored. If a student has a season pass, the cost is $5. Flash passes are available for up to groups of six but must be purchased separately at www.sixflags.com/overGeorgia prior to departure.

HOW DO I JOIN BUMC?
Complete and submit a membership form available on the BUMC web site or contact the church office for a hard copy. All new members must be baptized prior to joining the church, If you have not been baptized, please contact the church office to
schedule a baptism. You may be baptized on the day you join. Contact Mary Mueller at 770.815.4980 to schedule the date and time you wish to join. New members may join any Sunday, at either service, except the first Sunday of the month. We also schedule a Membership Sunday each month for new members who wish to join in a group setting. All new members are required to complete a Connections class either prior to or shortly after joining the church. Connections is a series of three one-hour, classes conducted in the Fellowship Hall during the 11:00 service. The dates and times are published in the church bulletin.

BUMC MISSION CORNER

▪ SERV Mexico 07/25/08 - 08/02/08
This is a BUMC sponsored mission trip to Mexico to build bunk beds for an orphanage and teach Vacation Bible School at night. The cost of the trip will be around $600 (depending on transportation).

▪ Second Annual Great Day of Service 5K Run/Walk (Athens) 6/18/2008 at 6:30 AM!
Come join the fun for the Second Annual Great Day of Service 5K, held in downtown Athens, during the annual North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. Proceeds from the race will benefit Our Daily Bread which is a local soup kitchen in Athens helping those less fortunate.  If you are interested in these missions, or if you have any local ministries you would like BUMC to support, please feel free to contact Tal Cox at 770.310.6345 or Chris Holcombe at 404.276.0399.

▪ UMCOR Emergency Kits Needed: Please help the UMW collect items needed for school supply kits and the UMM collect items for medicine boxes. Donated supplies may be dropped off at the Church office and will be taken to Athens for the North Georgia Annual Conference work day.
School kits: Blunt (rounded tip) scissors; loose-leaf ruled paper; 30 centimeter rulers, hand-held pencil sharpeners, unsharpened pencils with erasers; two-inch erasers; construction paper in varied colors; box of 24 crayons (24 only).
Medicine Kits: 4” x 4” sterile gauze pads; adhesive tape (1” x 10 yards/roll); triple antibiotic ointment; aspirin (325 mg. tablets); children’s chewable
multivitamins with iron; adult multivitamins with iron; children’s acetaminophen chewable 80 mg. tablets

SCOTTSDALE FARMS SPECIAL MEMORIAL GARDEN OFFER
If you purchase a plant at Scottsdale Farms for our Memorial Garden and turn in the receipt to the Church office, the amount will be credited to your giving record, and they will make a donation to the Church in the same amount! They have a list of the plants designated in the landscape design. The plants you purchase will remain at Scottsdale Farms until planting is scheduled. BUMC greatly appreciates the generosity of Scottsdale Farms.
