General Announcements
ALTAR FLOWERS
The flowers on the altar today are given by Laura Spurlin Clynch and
family in memory of her sister, Sara Spurlin Arnold.
WELCOME CHILDREN AND YOUTH
This summer we especially welcome our children and youth to the
Sanctuary worship services. Adults, please help make the services a
special experience. A smile, a high five, or other friendly gesture
will let them know they are welcome.
Parents, some suggestions for you
are:
-
Make a restroom stop before coming
into the service.
-
Sit where the children can see.
-
Quietly explain what is happening.
Point out the acolytes, musicians, minister, altar table, etc.
-
Suggest that the children look for
someone who looks sad or lonely and say a prayer for that person.
Draw a picture for that person to give to them after the service.
-
Help children realize that we sing,
we pray, we listen, and we give during worship.
Our regular Sunday School classes
will resume in August (date to be announced). Nursery care for
children in Pre-K and younger will be available throughout the
summer.
NAME TAGS - IMPORTANT!
Please wear your name tag every Sunday.
This will be especially helpful to our new pastors. You can order a
name tag by using
the envelopes at the information table in the narthex. Your name tag
will be placed on the information table for you to pick up. Orders
generally take two weeks. There are a number of name tags that have
not been collected.

CALLING ALL YOUTH & ADULTS…
Disciple Bible Study is gearing up for the fall and we would
like YOU to be a part of it!
“If you make my word your home, you will indeed be my disciples.”
John 8:31 (NJB)
Is this your year to:
▪ Grow closer to God?
▪ Have a life-transforming experience?
▪ Develop a sense of the Jesus you carry with you?
▪ Read the Bible in its entirety?
▪ Make a commitment to daily Bible study?
▪ Change and be energized by Scripture?
This fall, BUMC will be offering several Disciple Bible Study
Classes. Disciple Bible Study is a covenant-based 34-week study that
meets for 2 ½ hours each week. Each session involves daily Scripture
reading, a group video component and group discussions. Classes are
held either at the Church or in members’ homes. This is a great way
to get involved in a small group and get to know others in the
church. Evening and morning classes are forming. Come . . . and be a
part of this
life-transforming ministry. Cost $40 per person.
For questions or registration, please contact Rev. Julie Boone at
678.942.1604 or via email at
julie.boone@birminghamumc.org.

WE GATHER AT THE LORD’S TABLE
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Lord, help us to get back to the heart of worship. We are sorry,
Lord, for the things we have made it, and we confess that too often
preference and performance have been far more important to us than
bringing You glory and honor. We have put our own priorities and
convenience ahead of Your Son’s priority of reaching out to the
least, the last and the lost. Forgive us we pray. Free us to worship
You in spirit and truth and to serve you with conviction and
faithfulness.
COMMUNION PRAYER
Dear Lord, open the eyes of my heart to see your hand at work in
the world about us. Deliver us from the presumption of coming to the
Communion Table for solace only, and not for strength; for pardon
only, and not for renewal. Let the grace of these Holy moments make
us one body, one spirit in Christ, that we may remember who we and
whose we are and go forth to serve the world in His name.
PRAYER LIST— Prayer requests will stay on the prayer list for
two weeks. If you wish for something to stay on the list longer, you
