Elwynne
Rotaru joined the staff of Birmingham United Methodist
Church in July of 2006 in the position of Administrative
Assistant. A native of Atlanta, she earned a Bachelor of Arts
degree from Adelphi University in New York and attended graduate
school in Comparative Literature at the University of California
at Berkeley where she was a teaching assistant in German.
Her immediate previous work experience involved ballet company
management in Atlanta. For three years she was Administrative
Director of the Atlanta Ballet where she supervised all
departments and for the following twenty years was Executive
Director of Ballet Rotaru, a professional school and company
founded by her husband, Pavel Rotaru, former career principal
ballet dancer with the National Ballet of Romania. She was
responsible for producing, managing, and promoting professional
productions in every major theater in Atlanta and others
throughout the country and abroad. One tour of Romania was
filmed by Georgia Public Television in an Emmy-nominated
documentary.
Previously she was Assistant to the Managing Director of the
Atlanta Office of McKinsey & Company, an international
management consulting firm, where her responsibilities included
serving as staff editor and event manager. She has worked in
public relations and attended the Woodrow Wilson School of Law
in Atlanta.
Elwynne and her husband have a son, Philip Alexander. They have
been residents of Alpharetta for fifteen years.
